CHEEKY MONKEY SIDESHOW
10 PM
Price: $10
If you don’t know the name Sabrina Chap, you will soon.
Her music is a ragtime stompin’ good time, full of laughs, ballads, and just plain good songwriting. She’s in town to promote her new album, “OOMPA!” — a hilarious, yet heartbreaking romp — and we’re lucky enough to have her onstage with the Cheeky Monkey Sideshow!
You can hear some of her music at http://sabrinachap.com/music.htm.
PLUS:
Witness fantastic feats of physical transcendence–Will it be sword swallowing, mind reading, the cruel bed of nails, fire, human oddities, broken glass, bondage? The only way to find out is to show up!
Amazing acts of stupidity and danger!
Sideshow, sass, and song! It doesn’t get any better than this!
No Screwloose tonight!
11th February 2010
Due to excessive white-out conditions in DC, we are rescheduling the Screwloose Circus to next month, March 25!
This is a first for me, and quite a hard call. I know everyone is eager to leave the house, all rest and no sideshow makes Jack go crazy. Unfortunately, half the performers are in areas that haven’t been plowed, and the metro system isn’t running above ground trains.
Apologies for the tease, but hey, what do you expect from circus folk?
But don’t worry! I was able to reschedule them for next month, March 25th. Hopefully, enough snow will have melted by then that you will be able to find a parking space!
P.S. What does a sideshow girl do with more snow than she’s ever seen in her life? Make a Snow Fort. what else? (Must build up my defenses against the snow Daleks.)

In February, we will be joined by a fantastic singer/composer/performer, SABRINA CHAP. Check her out–she’s really talented!
March heralds the return of Coney Island’s burlesque confection, MISS CHERRY DELIGHT. Last time we spoke, she said some crazy guy bit her, and then she mumbled something about “brains.”
Oh well, it’s probably nothing. . .
we are all American Sinners.
13th January 2010
Now catch the free show!
From Washington Post’s Going Out Guru:
Saturday night, for example, it’s a release party for local band American Sinner (listen), whose accordion-violin-bass-drums lineup lends a distinctly Eastern European feel to its original tunes, which seem inspired by DeVotchKa and Nick Cave.
Also on the bill are bellydancers, sideshow acts (including Mab, whom we’ve seen do tricks involving piles of broken glass and nails hammered up her nose [watch]), and experimental electronic artist Pilesar (listen).
Best of all, there’s no cover all night long.
Happy New Year!
30th December 2009
Hope everyone had a lovely and relaxing holiday. I know I did! December is the time I catch up on costume/prop maintenance/updates, spend time with family and friends, and develop new acts.
It looks like 2010 has quite an adventure in store for me! Already January is 1/2 full!
Ok, ok. this post is rather vague, but I don’t want to give away all the surprises! Just stick around, and be the first to hear/see the new and improved Mab, Just Mab take on 2010!

Things are getting HOT this August!
13th August 2009
Hi folks!
I’ve just returned from a week long tour through PA and NY. A little Sideshow, a little Music, and even a little relaxation!
August is here now, and I’m surprised at how fast it’s disappearing already! There are several exciting shows coming up this month, including the Cheeky Monkey Tiki Party at the Palace of Wonders. Everyone loves Tiki parties *especially you Brady’s. Throw in some Cheeky Monkeys and you know it’s going to be outrageous! Plus we will be having as a special guest my ~favorite~ tiki goddess herself, L’il Dutch!
Last month I did two shows at the Comedy Zone in Crystal City, VA. This is a great venue, and a new and interesting challenge. This is not the usual drunken bar/festival crowd. These were civilized human beings, who like watching variety acts. while eating dinner. All those things my mom always said not to do at the dinner table came flooding back. “don’t stick things in your nose at the dinner table” “don’t swallow more than you can chew” etc. that kind of rules out Blockhead and Balloonswallow. and even though mom never said anything about walking on broken glass while at the dinner table, my past experience w/ audience members losing it hearing the glass break beneath my feet told me it might not be a good idea.
But the straitjacket, however, seemed like a ~perfect~ choice.
other gigs this month:
Comedy Zone – Saturday, August 15th
CMSS Tiki Party @ the Palace – Friday, August 21st
Tilted Torch @ the Palace – Friday, August 28th
Varietease in Richmond VA – Saturday, August 29th
In other news: a few Mab/Wedji sightings!
* You can find a picture of Wedji TuCheeks in the latest Daily Crock, the Faerie’s Magazine.
* you can hear my interview on Wayne Kaiser’s Ballycast, The Podcast of the Carnival, Sideshow and Burlesque
* you can find me at the NY Ren Faire, Playing drums with Karpathos
* and I even made it out to the 98 rock morning show. it was a miracle that I was up that early, so I have no idea what I said. if you were one of the folks who were luck enough to catch it, drop me a line to let me know how I did!
Next month already has tons of great plans! not the least of which is the Carnival of 5 Fires in Richmond VA.
State of the Mab – July!
02nd July 2009
* a brief post about my recent adventures!*

Wedji TuCheeks and her pet cockroach, Fluffy
Just returned from a magical land of make-believe found on the top of a mountain. My new Goblin (Trans-Fae) character, Wedji TuCheeks, was a huge hit at the NY Faerie Festival. The kids were a delight! We played, I bought their affections with goblin money, we taught my giant cockroach, Fluffy, new tricks, and I made new friends and saw old ones that have been missed.
The site of the faire was stunning. there was a large creek/small river running along side, with a little waterfall and everything! I hope to have some pictures loaded shortly.
in the midst of playing with faeries, I took a break to hit Asbury Lanes in NJ. what a sweet venue! the stage is built on the center 4 lanes of a working bowling alley. after the show, people told me that they had never seen anything like our show before. well, cats. we want to come back! and we’re bringing friends! I think the Cheeky Monkey Sideshow would ROCK that venue.
in other news! if you don’t subscribe to Ballycast, you should! it’s all about various sideshow performers, old and new. and I enjoy the interviews every episode. Now imagine how fangirl squee I got when Wayne Kaiser asked me for an interview. ^_^
you can check it out here!
and in case you missed it, I’m was also interviewed for sideshow documentary “Step Right Up“.
This month, I’m doing a bit of travel, some vacation, and even some gigs! I’ll be doing two nights at the Comedy Zone in Crystal City VA. This is a great gig for me as it challenges me to think outside the box. The venue is an upscale restaurant high a top the DoubleTree hotel, overlooking Washington DC (the view is stunning!). this is not the normal, drunken bar crowd, or faire/festival folks. I always love a challenge! Looking forward to it!
The Future:
15th June 2009
It might be that I am luring children away to the sideshow life. Thus securing the sideshow arts for the future! A friend’s daughter made this picture:
Mab on a bed of nails.
translation: “nailbed, nailbed. It is wiggly, it is tickley. It is fun.”.
that girl is the cutest thing!
^_^
