DCVariety Social Aide Society Benefit & Mab’s Birthday!
06th September 2011
Come out for an evening of Fun, Variety and Good Deeds!
DCVariety Social Aide Society was created to provide a safety net for uninsured variety artists, primarily in the DC Metro area. The organization is funded solely on donations, and powered by volunteers.
…
The name was inspired by the turn of the century organizations that would throw parties to help out other members of the community when they were in need. It was what people did before there was health insurance.
And you are invited to a benefit at the Red Palace (DC), Friday evening, Sept. 16th.
This event will serve 3 purposes.
1. to pad the DCV safety net fund. If we get enough of a seed, we can turn over administration of the fund to a proper fund management organization.
2. to raise awareness of the fund and the need that it fills and
3. to celebrate Mab, Just Mab’s birthday! (The best gift I can think of is supporting variety artists when they need it most!)
While the fund is small now, I hope to see it grow to the point where it can sustain itself! From the money we raised last April, we saved 2 local artists from eviction, and helped out Jellyboy (a sideshow performer who plays at the Palace) while he was in a coma! Not bad for such a small start!
The night will be filled with a wide array of variety artists to give the audience a great sampler of the amazing talent that’s right here in DC.

10th August 2011
Wed Aug 17 9:00pm
NOT The Moonshine Cabaret @ the Palace, DC AKA – Judy Chops, Slomski Brothers, Mab Just Mab & Marla Meringue
While this started as a Moonshine Cabaret show, only two of the regular acts were available. (the rest were rocking out in europe or jet setting in history). So, it became something else.
Something Different! SOMETHING TASTY!
The Slomski Brothers were in the middle of their tour with the fabulous Judy Chops. So I grabbed them all and put them on stage!
While writing up the act description, I realized everyone had a little nod to food! And so the show became: “You Gonna Eat All That?”
Speaking of tasty snacks:
Thu Aug 18 7:00pm
Jelly Vision Show – The Soundry, Vienna, VA – this is a live video cast interview, not so much of a show. But you can watch at home! who knows what will happen? I just love the folks from the Soundry, so I like to do stuff with them when I get a chance.

DCVariety Social Aide Society Benefit / (AKA – Mab’s Birthday Party) @ Palace
We recently renamed Pastie-aid to DCVariety Social Aide Society. The name was inspired by the turn of the century organizations that would throw parties to help out other members of the community when they were in need. It was what people did before there was health insurance. Sound familiar?
I’m planning another benefit Sept. 16th. This puppy will serve 3 purposes.
1. to pad the DCVariety safety net fund. If we get enough of a seed, we can turn over administration of the fund to a proper fund management organization.
2. To raise awareness of the fund and the need that it fills and
3. to celebrate my birthday! the best gift I can think of is supporting variety artists when they need it most! so, mark your calendars! Friday! Sept. 16th! and let me know if you want to help out with the show! perform, donate, kitten, whatever!
I know this is the busy season with Fringe & Festivals, but nestled in the midst of non-stop fun is a quite little gem of FREAKIN AWESOME!
My original circus crew (The Accidental Circus) will be joining forces with Baltimore’s longest running burlesque troupe (Gilded Lily Burlesque), and my fave vaudevillian uke/steel drum duo (the Slomski Brothers) for one night of WOW. We also have a secret stash of bonus surprise guests that will leave you stunned and amazed!
this is one of those shows that we agree to do not for the money, but for the chance to work with other amazing artists. I feel so lucky to be included! you won’t want to miss this!
This is gonna be one of the good ones.
hope to see you there!

PASTIE-AID!
13th April 2011
Pastie-Aid, a benefit for local uninsured variety performers, will be putting the “fun” in “emergency relief fund” at the Red Palace.
Whether you’re twirling a tassle, juggling fire or snapping a mousetrap on your tongue it’s good to know you’ve got insurance. Recently DC’s own sideshow girl, Mab, just Mab found out the hard way when, while on tour, she chipped a tooth. She ended up having to use rent money to pay for emergency dental work. While she was able to recover, she realized many of the local burlesque, vaudeville and variety communities are uninsured and working part-time jobs and may not be so lucky. So, with the help of Hope Operas founder Chris Griffin, she decided to create Pastie-Aid, an emergency fund for local variety, vaudeville and burlesque performers.
There will be a benefit performance and auction on Friday to kick-start the Fund.
Performers include:
Mab, just Mab
Eva Brontosaurus
UkeCordionPocalypse

Kiss my Uke: Sideshow Shenanigans
27th February 2011
Roll up Ladies and Gents to the Luckiest Sideshow in Town! For your entertainment, and dare we say, edification, the Red Palace presents a bevy of backroom beauties and beaus to tickle yer senses while you douse yer thirst with a dram o’ the luckiest stout in this two horse town.
Prepare yourself for a ukulele filled, hip swiveling, tassel twirling, sideshow spectacle from a group of performers that all have a whee bit of Irish in them, or want to end the night with a bit of Irish in them.
Step right up and let your senses delight in:
UkeCordionPocalypse – The Uke and the Accordion, together again to rediscover why they broke up in the first place! The semi-sober stylings of Mab, Just Mab & Miss Baska D’Joy, those red hot Honer honeys, and the music that made your Grandma show off her ankles and your Granpa sour his kraut. Both these lovely ladies have been known to be of loose morals when plied with the juice of the barley. Do not expose to direct sunlight!
Mark Slomski – More uke than you can shake a shillelagh at! Making music marinated in the finest whiskey, this brash young lad is ready to set your trews on fire with only three chords. Watch it lasses, he’sa rouge of the best kind. The gift of a tongue of silver, and the eyes of a sinner. Stir before serving!
Mavi – Not to be taken internally! Mavi is a wonder for the senses as she swivels her way hither and yon across the stage and into your very soul. Mavi is the dancer your sainted mother warned you about, and the dark secret your father kept. Can good luck be this bad for you? Yes it can!
Reverend Valentine – Not afflicted with Holy Mother Church, but one Holy Mutther, the good Reverend is the most disrespectful burly-q known to nuns. A high ranking Sister of the Perpetual Motion Tassel, she’s here to help you rediscover what fun can be had by kneeling. Say three Hail Marys, and pray you see the morning! Discontinue use of irritation occurs!
