March is coming in like a Sideshow Girl!

Ooh lordy! I say on this Fattest of Tuesdays, you should give up any reservations you might have about living well! There are many wonders to behold in the upcoming months. Have a look at some of the awesome that is in store for the month that comes in like a lion and out like another bigger lion!

This Friday, February 24th, The Ooh La La Belly Dance & Sideshow Revue is back!

This spectacle will make your eyebrows rise and your jaw drop. Witness an exhilarating display of both traditional and fusion belly dance featuring:

Ami, Ebony, Miasia, & Naimah will bring the dance to prance! What show would be complete without a compliment of mostly freakish and completely mind bending exotic sideshow performers: Swami YoMahmi and Mab, Just Mab!

Your guide on this mystical evening journey of tantalizing treats is none other than the tall and totally psychotic Aaron.

Experience the artworks of Yonas Hassen and Ami Wilber in a drawing and street photography exhibit. Afterparty with dj sets by Somaholiday spinning deep house, tech house and everything in between.

Buster Britches’ VooDoo Sideshow

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Join us for a show 200 years in the making. In 1811 the Richmond Theatre Fire left many dead, but not all of them stayed that way. Under the foundation of Monumental Church the spirits of a traveling sideshow lay buried under the rubble… now they’re finally ready for their last performance! Join us on Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Firehouse Theatre Project for a show that’s only fittingly called Specter Spectacular.

Performances by:
* Buster Britches
* Deanna Danger
* Binky Daze
* Mark Slomski and Bitsy Buttons of the Slomski Cabaret
* Miss Midnight
* Parker Galore
* Mab Just Mab

Preshow by the Red Vein Army starts at 8pm, with the main stage production at 9pm.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at or at the door. Space is limited, so buy your tickets TODAY before we sell out!

March 18th:
Workshops @ the Boom Boom Basics studio in Richmond, VA!

5:15pm Building the Bit
How to craft your performance in a way that will connect to the audience.
Added Bonus! How to handle hecklers!
• This is not about how to do “the ultimate tribal combo” or walk on broken glass. This is about how to present the product that you have been working so hard to learn.
• This will mostly be a lecture class. However, we will work with any pieces people want to bring to this class. Be prepared to take a lot of notes!
How many times have you said to yourself “I can do that!” after seeing a huge big name artist do an overpriced show? Have you ever wondered why some people who are doing simple tricks have larger crowds? Fatter hats? More shows? People have been studying the phenomenon for ages.

7pm: Uke Love!
Do you find that the 6 strings of the guitar too many?
Do you feel that you are not nerdy enough for the accordion?
Tired of trying to stash your davul in the overhead compartment?
Now there is an instrument for EVERYONE!
Great for parties! Perfect to play along at jams!
Easy to pick up, hard to put down!
Travel Sized!

FACT! Ukuleles increase your sex appeal!

4 strings and the truth! The Incredible, Portable, Magical, Musical, Ukulele is now within your reach!
Learn the basics of making sweet uke love and leave this workshop well on your way to becoming a ROCK GOD!
Mab, Just Mab will show you how to get started on your road to uke love!
This is a class for beginners, and people who have held a uke once or twice.
There are a VERY LIMITED number of spare ukes, so it is strongly advised that you get your own (you won’t regret it!). If you buy a new uke, be sure to tune it up before hand, strings need time to settle in. Mab is available for email questions before the workshop. Not sure what kind of uke to get? There are plenty of affordable ones for under $40. But watch out! If you pay less than $20, chances are you have a uke that won’t hold a tune!

Mab recommends the Kala Dolphin Bridge Soprano Ukulele for about $40 online for beginners

Both workshops are available to both women & men!

Visit the workshops page for description, registration & payment options!
